Ramadan SEO and the GCC seasonal calendar: what to publish, and when

Ramadan SEO works best when pages go live weeks before the month begins. This GCC seasonal marketing calendar maps Ramadan, Eid, White Friday, national days and shopping festivals month by month, with timing and tactics for each.

Ramadan SEO is the practice of preparing search content, landing pages and product listings before Ramadan and Eid so they rank when demand rises. In practice, that means publishing six to eight weeks before the month starts, not during it.

The same planning applies to the rest of the GCC seasonal calendar: White Friday, national days, shopping festivals and back-to-school. This guide sets out a month-by-month calendar for the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, explains why Islamic holidays move each year and covers the content, technical and e-commerce tactics that work for each season.

Why Ramadan and Eid move every year

The Islamic (Hijri) calendar is lunar, with years of about 354 or 355 days. That is roughly 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, so Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha each arrive about 11 days earlier every year. The official start of each month is confirmed by moon sighting, and dates can differ by a day between countries.

Over the next few years, Ramadan moves deeper into winter. It is expected to begin in early-to-mid February 2027 and around late January in 2028, which means it increasingly overlaps with the Dubai Shopping Festival, peak winter tourism and Saudi Founding Day. Copying last year’s calendar is the most common seasonal SEO mistake in the region.

Occasion Expected 2027 date (approximate)
Ramadan begins Around February 8
Eid al-Fitr Around March 9–10
Eid al-Adha Around May 16–17
Islamic New Year Around June 6

All Islamic dates in this guide are approximate and subject to moon sighting and official announcements. Build your plan around them, then confirm each date as it approaches.

The GCC seasonal SEO calendar, month by month

This calendar runs from October 2026 to September 2027. Fixed dates stay the same every year, while Islamic dates shift. The “SEO focus” column shows what to publish or update in that month, which is often well ahead of the event itself.

Ramadan SEO: how search behavior changes

During Ramadan, online activity commonly shifts later in the day, with busy periods after iftar and late into the night. Mobile use dominates, and interest rises in food and recipes, iftar and suhoor deals, restaurant offers, gifts and hampers, fashion, home goods, electronics, charity and zakat, and travel for the Eid holiday. The last ten days of the month usually bring a strong push in Eid shopping.

The tone of content changes too. Ramadan is a month of reflection, generosity and family, and messages that feel purely promotional can land badly. Content that helps people, such as recipe collections, gift guides, delivery cut-off reminders and charity information, tends to earn more links and shares than discount-only pages.

Ramadan SEO checklist

  • Use permanent URLs. Keep pages such as /ramadan-offers/ and /eid-gifts/ live all year and update them each season.
  • Build Arabic and English pages separately. Research each language on its own, including Arabizi and mixed-language queries, instead of translating one keyword list. A term such as “عروض رمضان” (Ramadan offers) has its own volume, competitors and phrasing.
  • Connect language versions with hreflang. Use complete pairs such as ar-SA, en-SA, ar-AE and en-AE, as covered in our hreflang guide.
  • Update Google Business Profile hours. Set special hours for Ramadan and Eid at every location, and add iftar menus or seasonal services where they apply. Our Google Business Profile team handles this across locations.
  • Link seasonal hubs prominently. Add links from the homepage and main categories during the season, then scale them back afterwards without removing the pages.
  • Mark up offers accurately. Keep Product schema prices, sale prices and availability in line with what the page shows, and use Event markup for genuine iftar or Eid events.
  • Prepare for evening peaks. Check that hosting, caching and checkout hold up under late-night traffic.
  • Make contact easy. Many customers in the region prefer WhatsApp, so add a clear click-to-chat option on seasonal landing pages.

Eid marketing: al-Fitr and al-Adha

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, and searches for gifts, new clothes, sweets, family outings and short trips build through the final days of the month. Publish delivery cut-off dates clearly, because “arrives before Eid” is a buying condition for many shoppers. After Eid, shift pages to post-Eid sales rather than taking them down.

Eid al-Adha falls around two months later and coincides with the Hajj season. It brings its own peaks in travel, family gatherings, gifting and udhiyah (sacrifice) services. For travel and hospitality brands, Eid al-Adha content often needs to be live well before Eid al-Fitr ends, since people plan holiday trips early.

White Friday SEO

White Friday is the name many GCC retailers use for Black Friday, and it falls on November 27 in 2026. Promotions often start earlier in the month and overlap with 11.11 sales, so White Friday SEO is really a November-long campaign.

The pages that rank tend to be ones that have existed for years. Keep a permanent /white-friday/ URL, refresh it in October with the current year’s categories and offers, and link to it from your main navigation during November. Keep sale prices in your product schema and Merchant Center feed in sync with the page, and build category-level deal pages for the ranges shoppers search for most.

National days and festivals in GCC seasonal marketing

National days are fixed, which makes them the easiest part of the calendar to plan. UAE National Day, also celebrated as Eid Al Etihad, falls on December 2, and Qatar National Day on December 18. In Saudi Arabia, Saudi National Day on September 23 and Saudi Founding Day on February 22 both drive offers, events and patriotic content.

Shopping and entertainment festivals add further peaks. The Dubai Shopping Festival usually runs from December into January, and Riyadh Season, the entertainment season that has grown alongside Vision 2030’s focus on tourism, entertainment and retail, usually runs from autumn into spring. Brands in hospitality, events, retail and real estate can build evergreen guides around these seasons and update them each year.

Keep national day content respectful and follow local rules on the use of national symbols in advertising. Our pages on the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar cover market-specific details.

E-commerce tactics for GCC seasons

Seasonal peaks expose technical problems that stay hidden the rest of the year. Before each season, check that seasonal collections are indexable, that variant pages are not creating duplicates and that out-of-season products stay live with alternatives rather than disappearing.

Stores on Salla and Zid need extra care. Auto-generated collection pages, missing product schema and conflicts between Arabic and English versions can all hold back seasonal pages. Our Salla and Zid SEO service fixes these before the season starts, and our content SEO team builds the gift guides and seasonal hubs that attract links.

How to measure seasonal SEO

Compare seasons with seasons, not months with months. Because Ramadan moves about 11 days a year, February 2027 compared with February 2026 mixes Ramadan and non-Ramadan days. Instead, compare the first week of Ramadan 2027 with the first week of Ramadan 2026, using custom date ranges in Search Console and analytics.

Track rankings for seasonal terms in both languages, clicks to seasonal pages and revenue from seasonal categories. Use Google Trends for each country to confirm when interest starts rising, and adjust next year’s publishing dates to match. If you want a view of how ready your site is for the next season, our free SEO audit checks seasonal pages, bilingual setup and technical health. Our Middle East page explains how we work across the region.

Planning the year ahead

Seasonal SEO in the Gulf rewards teams that plan a quarter ahead and keep their pages year-round. Put the fixed dates in the calendar now, add the approximate Islamic dates with a reminder to confirm them, and publish each seasonal page well before demand arrives. With Ramadan 2027 expected in February, the most valuable work for most brands starts this November.

Ask a question

When should I start Ramadan SEO?

Start planning about three months before Ramadan and publish your Ramadan pages six to eight weeks before it begins. Search interest often starts building in the weeks before the month, and new or updated pages need time to be crawled, indexed and ranked. For Ramadan 2027, expected in early-to-mid February, that means pages live by mid-December 2026.

When is Ramadan 2027?

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin in early-to-mid February, most likely around February 8, with Eid al-Fitr around March 9 or 10. These dates are approximate. The Islamic calendar is lunar and the official start is confirmed by moon sighting, so dates can differ by a day between countries. Plan around the estimate and adjust once authorities announce the date.

What is White Friday?

White Friday is the name many retailers in the Middle East use for their Black Friday sales, since Friday is a holy day in the region. It falls on the same date as Black Friday, November 27 in 2026, but promotions often run for a week or longer. Publishing your White Friday pages in October gives them time to rank before demand peaks.

Should Ramadan pages use a new URL every year?

No. Use a permanent URL such as /ramadan-offers/ and update the content each year instead of creating /ramadan-2027/. A permanent page keeps its backlinks, rankings and history, so it starts each season from a stronger position. Update the title, dates, offers and modified date, and keep the page live and useful between seasons rather than deleting it.

Do I need Arabic content for Ramadan SEO?

In most GCC markets, yes. Many seasonal searches in Saudi Arabia and across the region happen in Arabic, and the phrasing differs from direct translations of English terms. Run separate keyword research for Arabic and English, include Arabizi and mixed-language variants, and give each language its own page with correct hreflang, such as ar-SA and en-SA.

How much does seasonal SEO cost?

It depends on how many markets, languages and seasonal pages you need, and whether your site needs technical work first. Seasonal campaigns usually run within an ongoing SEO engagement rather than as one-off projects, because pages need time to rank. We quote after a free SEO audit, and engagements run month to month after an initial three-month period.
